Ivy Co-Founders Gary and Janet Smith were joined by Olivia Sedwick from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to deliver an incredible webinar to discuss DEI in 2025.

Themes From The Webinar

  1. Stress Levels in the DEI industry: There’s no denying that stress levels are currently high for DEI professionals, as the industry navigates through changing demands, expectations, and challenges.

At Ivy, we offer Leading in Complex Times workshop for managers or teams. Participants explore the dynamics of chaos and how to enhanceboth their personal and team resilience. We also offer Cohorts that includevirtual sessions, coaching, and a group project to build a learning communityfor anyone leading inclusion efforts during these uncertain times.

  2. Most organizations are maintaining or growing their DEI programs: Despite these stresses, many organizations are either maintaining or increasing their DEI programs, reflecting a long-term commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  3. Changing the name: One of the big questions we heard during the webinar was about changing the name from DEI—how it may be perceived as an attempt to downplay the importance of these initiatives, or that your organization might be doing something wrong. It's crucial to clarify the underlying reason for any name changes, as well as the message you're trying to send to your stakeholders.

  4. Questions about legality: There is uncertainty about what is legally acceptable within DEI programs, particularly regarding affirmative action, recruitment practices, and diversity quotas. At Ivy, we offer a workshop on “DEI legal right and tight” to address these concerns because it is critical that everyone remains informed and compliant.
